FAQs

  • Yes! Pura Vida Bakeshop ONLY USES 100% CERTIFIED GLUTEN FREE FLOURS in all our recipes.

All of our products are completely Celiac and wheat-allergy safe: free from wheat, barley, rye, and triticale (a wheat/rye cross).

  • Yes, we only use oats that are 100% certified gluten free.

  • No. Some products contain peanuts, macadamias, pistachios, and other nuts. Any of our products containing nuts are prominently labelled.

While we undertake strict allergen procedures at our licensed commercial kitchen, the facility is not dedicated nut-free.

  • Pura Vida Bakeshop is deadly serious about wheat and gluten allergen control.

The majority of our products available at craft fairs and farmers’ markets are baked in a residential kitchen, following strict Manitoba Health guidelines for non-potentially hazardous foods. However, these guidelines limit some of our product range - restricting us from using buttercream icing, for instance.

The residential kitchen has been, and always will be, 100% wheat and gluten free because Erika has an anaphylactic allergy to wheat. Any cross-contamination would cause a life-threatening allergic reaction requiring her to use her EpiPen and call 911.

  • While there are currently no dedicated gluten-free commercial kitchen spaces for rent in Winnipeg, we use a licensed commercial facility and take extreme precautions regarding wheat and gluten allergen and cross-contamination.

Erika is certified by the Canadian Institute of Food Safety in allergen control measures.

She follows the American Celiac Association’s proven, scientific procedures to decontaminate, clean, and sanitize any shared food preparation surfaces. This includes a thorough soap-and-water washing before, during, and after production.

  • Yes. We only use dedicated gluten-free bakeware for our products both in our residential kitchen and licensed commercial kitchen.

  • Pura Vida Bakeshop products are available at a variety of craft fairs and farmers’ markets in Winnipeg and the surrounding region.
